The Department of Psychiatric held a training programme on drug dependency under the Universal Treatment Curriculum, which was funded by UNODC/FMOH/AKTH.
The Head of Department Psychiatry, Dr. Umar Musa Usman said the programme is about curtailing drug abuse by training health professionals on evidence based treatment.
The objective of the training was to improve professional knowledge about the disease, model of addiction and enhance health professionals’ skills in the treatment of patients with addiction problems.
In his speech, Chairman MAC, Professor Abdurrahman Abba Sheshe who represented the Chief Medical Director commended the coordinators and trainers of the programme for job well-done.
A maximum of Twenty five health workers participated in the training, being the first of its kind in the Hospital. He urged for more participation as the programme will be extended to other health workers within the institution.
Professor Sheshe encouraged them to work diligently with the knowledge and training acquired during the workshop.
