The Anticorruption and Transparency Unit of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital held a two days workshop for the new staff of the Hospital. In his opening speech, the acting Chairman ACTU Mallam Musa Abdullahi of Pharmacy Department explained that the Anticorruption and Transparency Unit is an off shoot of Independent Corrupt Practices Commission ICPC established in year 2000.
He said ACTU does all the work of ICPC except prosecution and therefore advised and instruct staff to be careful about corruption prone areas.
In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director, Professor Aminu Zakari Mohammed who was represented by the Chairman Medical Advisory Committee, Professor Abdurrahaman Abba Sheshe lamented that corruption is a sad and major factor preventing the development of the country.
He said whatever is done in the Hospital affects the patients directly or indirectly and that is why health professional should be careful when dealing with patients because whatever a staff does inform of corruption will go round and come back to him, as one day he could be the patient.
She called on them to avoid falling on the trap of corruption. The State Commissioner of ICPC represented by the Desk Officer of AKTH, Mallam Abdullahi Abubakar congratulated ACTU of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for being the best within the State.
Two papers were presented during the workshop, which include, Causes of Corruption and Its Remedies in a Hospital Setting, by Professor Samaila Alhaji of Internal Medicine Department and the second paper was presented by Dr. Habib Musa Muhammad from Anaesthesia Department titled “Contentment as a Tool Against Corruption” where he shade light about the insight of contentment, benefits and negative effects of discontentment.
