The Management of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital is on top gear to reconstitute a new Medical Audit Committee, which will oversee the entire medical practice and management of patients and care in the Hospital.
The Chief Medical Director, Professor Aminu Zakari Mohammed stated this during the 2018 Mortality Review presented by Department of Community Medicine in the Hospital’s Conference Hall.
Prof. Zakari said the reconstitution of the Ethical Committee was as a result of unethical standard operating procedures in patients care, such as missing of patient folders, undue delegation of authority, lack of proper documentation and communication, delay in handing and taking over patient among teams, etc.
The Chief Medical Director further said, any staff found wanting will be dealt with accordingly as no sacred cow or stone will be left unturned.
On their separate remarks the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Prof. Abdulrahman Abba Sheshe and Prof. Muhammad Musa Borodo, Consultant endocrinologist commended the presenters and urged them to get detailed data of the mortality review to enable their work get published in International Journals.
Earlier, the presenters, Drs. Hadiza Musa Abdullahi, Consultant Community Physician and Abubakar Musa Sarki, Senior Registrar, Department of Community Medicine said the reasons for the mortality review is to measure the magnitude and number of deaths and rates, causes of deaths, identify errors in management, suggest ways to reduce avoidable deaths in the future.
The presenters recommend training and retraining of staff on filling mortality forms, improve communication between teams, reverting to electronic medical records, digitalization of mortality data, detail investigation by Infection Control Unit, prevention of non-communicable diseases, among others
