A four man team from Havila Driving School led by their Director Mr Richard Izik, paid a visit to Male Surgical Ward of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) on 4th December, 2019 to sympathize with accident victims.

Chief Nursing Officer in-charge of the Ward Malam Ado D. Riruwai took them round to see the victims where Mr. Richard spoke with Habibu Ahmad who had sustained a head injury and multiple arm fracture and have been on admission in the Ward for more than two months.

Earlier, they were received by representative of Chief Medical Director Dr. Gambo Muhammad Jahun and Top Management staff at the Board Room of the Hospital.

The Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital has been described as one of the most vibrant and effective ACTU within Kano/Jigawa.

Aminu Kano Kidney Foundation Trust donated dialysis consumable items worth N500,000 for patients with end stage kidney disease.

The Chairman of the Foundation, Professor Abdulhamid Isa Dutse who presented the items on behalf of the foundation, disclosed that the Foundation was established with the aim of assisting patients with renal failure and the items donated will provides up to 100 sessions of dialysis.  He also affirmed that the Foundation will be providing assistance to the patients every quota of the year, especially those that are in dare need of the assistance.

The Chief Medical Director, Professor Abdurrahaman Abba Sheshe expressed gratitude of the gesture by the Foundation.  He said, kidney disease is on the increase in the society due to indiscriminated use of traditional and Orthodox medicine among the general public.  He urged the Foundation to assist with sensitization lecture to curtail this ugly trend as prevention is better than cure. The Chief Medical Director further appealed for more donations from philanthropists.

Members of the Foundation who witnessed the occasion include former Minister of Education, Professor Rukayya Ahmad Rufa’i OON, Head of Dialysis Unit, Professor Aliyu Abdu and Malam Buba Sa’ad a Kidney Transplant Patient.

Prophet Muhammad (SAW) Maulud Forum, a subsidiary of the Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital Chapter held its annual Maulud celebration to remind and  strengthen the faith of the Muslim Ummah of the Hospital as well as the remembrance of the birth of Holy prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.).

Lectures were delivered by Malam Jabir Nasir Kabara on the love of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) his ideal life and character.

Mal. Zubair Madigawa who focused on Prophet Muhammad as a ray of light and helper to the needy implored muslims to emulate him .

Commenting, the organizer of the Maulud and Asst. Director, Chemical Pathology, Mal. Hassan Maikudi Muhammad express delighted on the large turnout of people that grace the occasion describing it as one of the biggest Maulud.

He commended the Hospital Management for offering the hall free of charge and other logistic support as well as various staff who provided financial support towards the success of the occasion.

Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation (NNPC) has donated tissue typing machine for cross matching and a laboratory investigation for kidney failure patient preparing for transplant in Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.

The Chief Medical Director of the hospital Professor Abdulrahaman Abba Sheshe disclosed this while receiving National officials of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), during a courtesy visit to the Hospital.

He said the machine will start functioning by January 2020 God willing, thereby bringing to an end the challenge of tissue typing bedeviling the Renal Transplant in the Hospital, as in the past  samples have to be sent abroad either to India or Egypt for the cross matching. The Chief Medical Director said this development will also attract renal failure patients from neighboring States and Countries.

Speaking during the visit, the President of the Association, Dr. Francis A. Faduyeli commended AKTH for its efforts most especially in the areas of the renal transplant.

He said this has indeed made AKTH to be in the forefront among the tertiary health facilities in the country.

Dr. Fayadeli further commended the efforts of the Chief Medical Director for his ability to maintain a beautiful and well-kept environment.

He then pledged NMA’s full support to the Hospital in order to ensure effective and efficient service deliver.
