The Women Health Physiotherapists have provided the latest evidence based therapy for women of child bearing age to premenopausal mothers, young athletes to women with incontinence and other pelvic health complications.
This was stated by Physiotherapist Rukayya Ibrahim Hassan a Principal Physiotherapist during a clinical presentation of the Department.
She ascertained that evidence has shown that group training programmes designed and delivered by physiotherapist can relieve lower back pain, pelvic pain, as well as function of urinary incontinence in pregnant women.
She said physiotherapist intervention reduces the length of labour and decreases pain through the exercises programmes designed to improve physical health and positioning relaxation.
She added that postnatal exercises helps in postnatal complications for normal delivery and caesarian section.
She further explained that physiotherapy is useful in Management of infertility caused by ovulation disorders or physical irregularities in the pelvis by inducing ovulation through exercises, life style modification etc. The Management of menopausal chances can also be achieved through aerobic exercises, weight reduction exercises, postural reduction exercises, intervention in women’s health and oncology in the Management of breast cancer post surgical complications, musculesketal complications etc. The Physiotherapist finally stressed the need for teamwork among medical practitioners and the need for provision of space to conduct exercises.
She recommended for a physiotherapy unit in Obstetric and Gynaecology department to conduct exercises for different category of women.
Speaking, the Chairman Medical Advisory Committee, Associate Professor Abdurrahman Abba Sheshe, commended the presenter and recommended for close interaction with other departments in order to create more awareness.
He suggests judicious utilization of the resources available and to organize programmes for the targeted group.
Commenting,a woman health physiotherapist, Aisha Ali Harazumi said exercises prescribed and supervised by physiotherapist have shown more success than those conducted individually. She added that they have managed a lot of conditions and undergone series of researches, which have proved that the women health Physiotherapist work.
