Laundry and Linen Services is a support service department under the Directorate of Administration shouldered with the responsibility of sourcing, sewing, distribution and maintenance of all linen items such as bed sheets, theatre drippings and outfit, patient wears and staff uniforms. Uniform using staffs under this cover are Doctors, Laboratory Scientists, Technologists, Technicians, Radiographers, Laundry personnel, Messengers, Horticulture and Environmental personnel, Hospital Attendants, Physiotherapists, Catering and Health Records personnel. Every uniform user is provided with two sets to serve for two years after which renewal is made on request. The department also undertakes the training of middle level manpower on handling of mechanized laundry across the country. The functions of the department can therefore, be summarized as follows:
1.Provision of clear and disinfected linen items to the theatre, wards, clinics and other departments/units of the hospital.
2.Provision of protective clothing (uniforms) to all staff of the hospital (including corpers, interns)
3.Advise management on all linen matters.
4.Training middle level manpower within and from other sister hospitals across the country.
The department operated with a total number of thirty six (36) staff in the year under review. The department is headed by a Chief Technical Officer assisted by Technologists and Technicians comprising of nine (9) senior staff and twenty seven (27) junior staff.
The Department in the year under review, trained eight personnel in six months mechanized Laundry operations. Six of them are from Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital while two are from Federal Medical centre Gusau. Two hundred and ninety six thousand Naira (
N296,000.00) was generated.The department also generated three million one hundred and five thousand, four hundred and thirty one Naira ( N3,105,431.00) only from Laundry Services rendered to Revolving and Non-revolving fund Departments/Units of the Hospital.
Five junior staff attended and passed the six months mechanized laundry course.
